The CAFF Flora Group (CFG) is developing a Red List of Arctic Vasular Plants, a comprehensive list of rare and endangered plants, anticipated for release in 2013.
There are several regional and national Red Lists, but no common international IUCN list for the Arctic region. With the effects of climate change, there will be changes among plant species, but scientists don’t know which species will be affected, or how their abundance and distributions may change.
The Arctic vascular plants Red Listing project will follow the IUCN guidelines (IUCN 2001) for basic rules and definitions, and IUCN (2006) for the more detailed definitions and use of the Red Listing system.
Further work will also include production of Red Lists for bryophytes, lichens, algae and fungi.
